Comprehensive lipid panel update relevant to the lipid panel: Marker Baseline 6 Months 12 Months Reference Total Cholesterol 235 220 180 <200 LDL…

Careful with treating an unchanged LDL-C as a failure. If ApoB and triglycerides both fell, the particle picture improved regardless of what the calculated LDL says.

Ask again with the specifics and you will get a better answer than this one.

Trying to work out whether my panel improved or merely rearranged itself, because two of the numbers went the wrong way.

Tracking labs for the lipid panel — here's the panel I get every 3 months and why:

  • CMP: glucose, electrolytes, kidney function, liver enzymes
  • Lipid panel: total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides
  • A1C: 3-month glucose average
  • hsCRP: inflammatory marker
  • CBC: blood counts, anemia screening
  • B12, folate, iron: nutritional deficiency screening
  • TSH, free T4: thyroid monitoring
  • Lipase: pancreatic safety check

Total cost with insurance: about $31 copay. Without insurance, request cash-pay pricing from Quest/Labcorp — usually $186.

Advanced lipoprotein testing on the lipid panel — going beyond standard lipid panel:

MarkerBaselineMonth 8Clinical Meaning
LDL-P1591991Particle count (more precise than LDL-C)
Small dense LDL66%35%Atherogenic pattern
Remnant cholesterol4315Triglyceride-rich lipoproteins
oxLDL7639Oxidative stress marker

The shift from small dense to large buoyant LDL is particularly important — it represents a fundamental change in the atherogenic profile.

A narrower follow-up, since the general answer is now clear:

How long did you give it before you decided it was working?

OP back with an update, since a thread like this is useless without one.

For the archive: it took about six weeks rather than the two I expected, and the difference between those two numbers was the whole of my problem.
