This one has a reasonably settled answer, so here it is. The trade-off is reversibility against privacy and there is no option that gives you both. Card payments are reversible and disclose the most; crypto discloses least and is irreversible, which is precisely why pressure toward it is a warning sign when it comes from a seller rather than a buyer. Escrow only means anything where the escrow agent is independent of both parties, which is rarely the case in practice.
One order arrived in nine days, one was held at the border for a fortnight, and one came back with a seizure notice. Same route, same declaration wording.
The narrow version of the question is which of the variables in a cross-border order actually determine the outcome, and which are superstition.
Numbers rather than impressions, if you have them.

Agreed, and one detail people underrate: an irreversible payment removes your only leverage in a dispute, so it should be the last step rather than the first.

Adding a me-too, because a thread of one person's experience is not much use. Posting only so the count is not one.
From the other side of the consultation, briefly.
My experience ordering cross-border ordering internationally: I've ordered from an Australian compounder. Customs can be hit or miss.
Shipping time: 5-10 days
Customs clearance: was seized once, reshipped free
Quality: Janoshik tested at 98.3% purity
International ordering adds complexity but can save 60-80% compared to US prices. Research your country's import laws first.
