Anti-inflammatory mechanisms of GLP-1 agonists and cardiovascular risk: beyond weight loss, GLP-1R activation directly suppresses NF-κB signaling,…

Continuous metabolic monitoring dashboard for cardiovascular risk — I track everything in a spreadsheet and here's the month-over-month trend for my key markers:

Weight: consistent downtrend, -2.2 lbs/week average
Fasting glucose (finger stick): stable at 83 mg/dL
Blood pressure (home): 117/73 average
Resting heart rate: 63 bpm (down from 79)
Waist circumference: down 13 inches total

The resting heart rate improvement correlates with cardiovascular fitness gains. Everything is moving in the right direction.

I'm 67 years old and want to share my perspective on cardiovascular risk as an older member of this community.

Genuinely useful, thank you. I had the facts and not the framework. Printing the relevant bit and taking it with me.

Cardiac biomarkers and cardiovascular risk: my cardiologist ordered advanced cardiac labs given my family history. Results were encouraging:

  • NT-proBNP: 60 pg/mL (normal, cardiac function preserved)
  • Lp(a): 60 nmol/L (genetic, unchanged — expected)
  • ApoB: dropped from 145 to 85 mg/dL (excellent response)
  • Coronary calcium score: 0 (unchanged from baseline — reassuring)

The ApoB reduction is particularly meaningful — it's considered the best single predictor of cardiovascular risk. GLP-1 therapy seems to improve this consistently.

My reason for being on this is cardiovascular rather than cosmetic, which puts me in a small minority in most of these threads.

Metabolic syndrome resolution on cardiovascular risk: I went from meeting 3 of 5 diagnostic criteria to meeting ZERO after 11 months of treatment.

The 5 criteria (and my journey):

  1. Waist circumference: 50" → 36" ✅ Resolved
  2. Triglycerides: 222 → 102 ✅ Resolved
  3. HDL: 34 → 54 ✅ Resolved
  4. Blood pressure: 142/92 → 120/74 ✅ Resolved
  5. Fasting glucose: 117 → 86 ✅ Resolved

Metabolic syndrome reversal is, in my view, the most medically significant outcome of GLP-1 therapy.

Moderator note: the sourcing question belongs in the vendor section and has been split out.
