the point above about having a transition plan is critical. Here's what I'm doing to prepare:
1. Building a relationship with my PCP to have a prescription pathway to branded Ozempic/Wegovy if needed. Prior authorizations can take weeks, so I want this process started BEFORE I need it.
2. Understanding my insurance coverage for branded GLP-1s. Many plans now cover them for diabetes (T2DM) and increasingly for obesity. The landscape is changing.
3. Saving money now for the potential transition period. Branded GLP-1s cost $800-1400/month without insurance. Even with insurance, copays can be $25-500/month depending on your plan.
4. Staying informed on the FDA's shortage list updates. You can sign up for alerts on the FDA website when specific drugs are added to or removed from the shortage list.
5. Not stockpiling. It's tempting to order extra compounded sema "just in case," but peptides have limited shelf life and stockpiling contributes to supply constraints for everyone.
