Two things drive this: people drink less because drinking makes them feel full, and they restrict salt at the same time as calories without noticing.

Electrolyte monitoring on hydration — especially important during early titration when GI effects are most pronounced:

  • Sodium: 139 mEq/L (normal, but was low at week 2 from vomiting)
  • Potassium: 3.9 mEq/L (supplement if below 3.5)
  • Magnesium: 1.9 mg/dL (supplementing with glycinate)
  • Phosphorus: 3.7 mg/dL (normal)

Low electrolytes cause muscle cramps, heart palpitations, and fatigue — symptoms often blamed on the medication itself. Check your levels before assuming it's a drug side effect.

Following on from claudia_zurich — and this may be the naive question:

Which of the variables in a cross-border order actually determine the outcome, and which are superstition?

Helpful anti-nausea foods for hydration users:

  • Ginger (tea, chews, supplements — all work)
  • Peppermint (tea or oil capsules)
  • Plain crackers or rice cakes
  • Bananas (easy to digest, replenish potassium)
  • Clear broth (hydration + sodium)
  • Small amounts of protein (chicken breast, plain Greek yogurt)

Avoid: greasy foods, spicy foods, large meals, lying down after eating. Keep meals small and frequent — I do 5-6 mini meals/day.

Muscle cramps on hydration — anyone else? I was getting severe leg cramps at night, especially calves. Bloodwork showed my magnesium was low.

GLP-1 agonists can cause electrolyte shifts due to reduced food intake and GI effects. Get your electrolytes checked and supplement accordingly. I take magnesium glycinate 400mg + potassium gluconate 99mg daily and cramps are gone.

True, with the qualification that this is a self-selected group. The people for whom it did not work post less, and that shapes everything we think we know.

Happy to go further on any of that.
