^ Yes, this. The emotional intensity is the real story, not just the vividness. I've had dreams that left me in a certain mood for HOURS after waking up. I dreamed I got in a fight with my best friend and I literally felt awkward talking to her the next day even though NOTHING HAPPENED.

This is consistent with enhanced REM sleep. REM is when emotional memory processing occurs — it's literally your brain processing and integrating emotional experiences. If semaglutide is increasing REM time (through any of the mechanisms I mentioned), you'd expect both more vivid AND more emotionally intense dreams.

Some people with trauma histories report that this dream intensification brings up old stuff. If that's happening and it's distressing, it's worth mentioning to your provider. For most people it's benign — weird and sometimes amusing — but for some it can be genuinely disruptive.

The injection day correlation is strong for me. My wildest dreams are always the night of injection and the night after. By day 3-4 they're more normal. Makes sense if it correlates with peak plasma levels.

e!! Injection night is my "blockbuster movie dream" night. I actually look forward to it now lmao. Last injection night I dreamed I was a detective solving crimes with a talking golden retriever. 10/10 would watch that show.

For what it's worth, there IS a 2024 preprint (not peer-reviewed yet) looking at sleep architecture changes via polysomnography in patients starting semaglutide. They found a statistically significant increase in REM sleep percentage (from ~20% to ~27% of total sleep time) and decreased sleep-onset latency. Both of these would contribute to increased dream recall and intensity.

The GLP-1R in the nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) modulates arousal pathways, and the hypothalamic GLP-1R is near the suprachiasmatic nucleus which controls circadian rhythms. There's a real neurobiological basis for semaglutide affecting sleep. Just needs more rigorous study.

In the meantime, enjoy the cat orchestra. Could be worse side effects tbh 😂
