Closing the loop on my own question.

Closing the loop. The answer turned out to depend on the detail I had left out of the opening post, which is a lesson about how to ask rather than about the subject.

The figures, for anyone assembling their own picture. The boring version of this is the one that works, and the boring version is: measure a baseline, change one variable, wait, measure again under the same conditions. Nobody wants that answer and it is still the answer.

One thing that is still open after NurseKim_ATL’s answer:

Was that from a primary source or from a summary of one?

Pushing back on SleepDoc_PDX here. The objection nobody has made: this only works if the measurement is doing what we assume it is doing, and that assumption has not been tested here.

Agreed, with the usual condition: that holds for the average and this board is a collection of individuals. A population claim and a personal prediction are different things and get quoted interchangeably.

If somebody has the primary source to hand I would rather cite it than paraphrase it.
