I read this differently from Dr.PeteFamMed, on substance rather than tone. This treats a plausible mechanism as a demonstrated one. Plausible is where you start looking, not where you stop.

No disagreement, though the timescale matters more than the mechanism here. Most of what looks like a difference in kind turns out to be a difference in how long somebody waited.

Ask again with the specifics and you will get a better answer than this one.

Adding the clinical framing, because it changes how the question reads. Say what you would expect to see if you were wrong, before you look. It is a small discipline and it changes what you notice.
