One thing that is still open after DebRD_ATL’s answer:

What did you change at the same time, and can you separate the two now?

Reporting back.

Six weeks on from posting: I stopped reading the weekly number and started reading a four-week average, and the "stall" I opened this thread about was a 1.8kg loss I could not see.

Say what you would expect to see if you were wrong, before you look.

lisa_labSD has the substance of this right. The condition it depends on is worth stating. Yes, and the corollary is less popular: if the reasoning holds, it also holds where it produces an answer we do not like.

Worth separating that from storage and cold chain, which this thread keeps folding into the same question. They behave differently and the advice does not transfer.

Thank you — that is the clearest version of this I have read, and I have read a lot of them. Taking it to my next appointment.

Adding the clinical framing, because it changes how the question reads. The mechanism and the magnitude are separate questions. Agreeing that something happens says nothing about whether it happens enough to act on.
